NHS and Health-Board Managers who Stay on the Roster: An Online MSc from Oxford without Emptying the Ward

Abstract

British health boards cannot send every emerging manager to a year off the rota. This study evaluates Oxfordium health-management students working in NHS England and in care organisations, studying online, with optional Oxford intensives. Capstones that improved a real flow, documentation or winter-pressure protocol were used. Generic leadership essays were not. Night-shift students needed asynchronous clinics. Oxfordium University should keep health management distinct from clinical registration. The Oxford campus is a resource, not a gate that online NHS staff must pass through to be ‘real’.
